Guapwhy’s “IT$$ODARK” came together in a way that feels almost as spontaneous as the song itself. The track started with producer juggxm sending him a beat that immediately stuck. Instead of rushing to record, Guapwhy spent about two days just listening to the instrumental and letting it sit with him. Eventually, one night, he took a shroom, got in the right headspace, and recorded the entire song in roughly 40 minutes.
Even the hook came from a real moment earlier that day. Guapwhy and a friend had been walking along a trail as the sunlight slowly disappeared around them. As it got darker, he told his friend that it was getting really dark and made him walk in front. That simple moment ended up becoming the foundation for the hook. From there, “IT$$ODARK” became a short, direct track that mixes random everyday inspiration with pieces of Guapwhy’s real life.
Interview
What was going on when you made “IT$$ODARK”? Was the song inspired by a specific situation or were you just catching a certain mood that day?
Me and my bro juggxm, amazing producer by the way, were just chopping it up and he sent a beat through. I remember bumping just the beat for two days, and one night I took a shroom and just recorded the whole thing in like 40 minutes.
Where did the title “IT$$ODARK” come from? Does “dark” have a deeper meaning behind it, or did it just fit the energy of the track?
Originally earlier in the day, we went to this trail and we were walking while the sunlight was getting less and less. I told my friend, “It’s lowkey really dark, you first in front of me.” That’s really how I got the hook of that song.
The song is only 1:39, so it gets in and out pretty quick. Did you purposely want to keep it short, or did it just feel complete at that length?
I just felt like it didn’t need to go any longer. Enough was said, to be honest.
What’s your favorite part of the song personally? Is there a certain bar, flow, or section that you think people should really pay attention to?
I think when I said, “Fuck Ni, she a bitch, oh ya,” that’s when I started really feeling the song because I’m really reflecting on my real life problems.
For somebody hearing Guapwhy for the first time through “IT$$ODARK,” what do you want them to understand about you as an artist after listening?
I’m doing this for fun and I love everyone and noise. 🔊💕
“IT$$ODARK” gives a quick look into how Guapwhy approaches music without overcomplicating it. A beat he could not stop replaying, a random moment on a dark trail, and some real-life frustration were enough to turn into a full song in less than an hour. More than anything, the track reflects an artist who seems comfortable creating off instinct, having fun with the process, and letting whatever is happening around him find its way into the music.
