As It Is is Ilements‘ new album, a work that blends introspection and spirituality with a vibrant celebration of life. His conscious lyrics are set to productions that fuse roots reggae with rub-a-dub, creating a sound that pays tribute to the artist’s Caribbean roots. The result is a personal narrative, an intimate musical story that unfolds through immersive and captivating sounds.
In the focus track, I’m from a place, Ilements describes his homeland, Saint Martin, shedding light on a complex and painful reality: “It’s a tax haven plagued by poverty, where the local population lives in misery, corruption, and injustice. The song paints a picture of a daily struggle for survival, inviting reflection on social inequalities and calling for change. It is not just a statement, but a call to awareness and liberation”.
Songwriter, author, producer, and performer, Ilements – now based in France – enriches the energy he is known for behind a microphone, surrounding himself in the studio with some of the best French reggae musicians: Kubix, Saymon, Boris, and Smart (Danakil) and Manjul.
As It Is (Baco Records), which includes ten original tracks and two dub versions, is Ilements’ third LP, following Justice (2016) and Cyaan Trap Me (2019). The album is available on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms.
