KvngCaleb Is Still Moving on “C00LING N0T”

KvngCaleb’s “C00LING N0T” is built around the idea that appearances can be misleading. On the surface, the track carries the energy of someone enjoying the rewards of their work, but underneath that is a mentality centered on staying active, focused, and hungry. For KvngCaleb, “cooling not” means refusing to get too comfortable. Even when life looks relaxed from the outside, there is always another move being planned.

The song opens his three-track EP TRANS!T, which also includes “TWO TONES” and “MODE.” Rather than treating the project as an isolated release, KvngCaleb sees it as part of a larger progression toward his upcoming project Cro$$roads. The sound, spelling, artwork, and purple-star aesthetic were all designed to introduce listeners to that world gradually. Across the three songs, the confidence continues to build, moving from hunger and motion on “C00LING N0T” toward a more fully realized sense of self by the end of the EP.

What does “C00LING N0T” actually mean to you?

Cooling Not means I’m not just relaxing or playing around. It’s a term for people who don’t spend all their time cooling off. We’re putting in work, staying active, staying focused, and constantly moving. It’s really just that mindset of not getting too comfortable. We’re not cooling off, we’re cooling not, or not cooling.

If “C00LING N0T” was a scene in a movie instead of a song, what would be happening?

I think it would be a scene where everything looks like we’re just living, probably somewhere tropical like Miami. I’m with my jiggas, there’s money around, girls, everybody’s having a good time, the whole scene is wavy. But underneath all of that, you know there’s been a lot of work that got us there. That’s really the energy of COOLING NOT. From the outside it looks like we’re cooling, but we’re really still working, still thinking about the next move.

Since “C00LING N0T” opens TRANS!T, what does this song introduce about this version of KvngCaleb?

“C00LING N0T” introduces the mindset of this version of me. Even when it looks like I’m cooling, I’m really not. I’m living, I’m making money, but I’m still moving and still thinking about what’s next. Then “TWO TONES” builds on that. That song is more about embracing the lifestyle and the position we’ve worked ourselves into. It’s not confidence that came out of nowhere, it’s confidence built from everything that came before it.

And then we move to “MODE,” where I’m completely stepping into that feeling. We’ve put in the work, we’re seeing the results, and now I’m feeling like that guy and getting ready for whatever’s next. So C00LING N0T introduces that whole mindset. The hunger is still there, but now there’s confidence behind it.

The whole TRANS!T aesthetic feels intentional, from the spelling to the purple star. What does that visual world represent?

Everything around TRANS!T was intentional. I didn’t want to jump straight into “Cro(roads”. The two projects before it, “Before We Cro)roads” and “TRANS!T”, are meant to gradually introduce people to a sound that isn’t regular, and bring them into that world before we get there. Even the spelling reflects that. If the sound is alternative, I didn’t want the title to look regular either.

The purple star is the first introduction to the aesthetic of the main project. Purple represents the rage, but also something colorful and different, which fits the world we’re building. And “TRANS!T” itself represents that transition, both musically, as we move toward Cro$$roads, and personally, because I was going through a lot of changes in my own life. Everything was really designed to feel like part of one bigger journey.

If you had to describe the transition from “C00LING N0T” to “TWO TONES” to “MODE” without talking about the actual music, what changes?

I think it just gets more confident as it goes.

With TRANS!T, KvngCaleb is using three short tracks to document more than just a change in sound.
