Roots ‘n’ Soul is the new album by the Swiss band ZonaSun, following several singles and an EP released since the end of 2023. The visual impairment of Tom Siddh, mind and heart behind the project, forced him to find new ways of working on the production front. It led him to deep personal reflection, which culminated in this new work that encapsulates his artistic evolution over the past few years.
The human being is at the center of this album. His relationship with Mother Earth, with the other individuals who inhabit it, with society, and with himself are the themes explored in the various tracks. Seeds that must be planted and nurtured in order to sprout, grow, and blossom, as Nazamba’s (R.I.P.) voice also says at the beginning of the title track.
Composed and produced almost entirely by Tom Siddh in his home studio, the Wise Monkey Lab, this album features electronic sounds and programmed drums. A very different production approach compared to previous albums, where he would enter the studio with the full band. This choice was driven both by circumstances and by Tom Siddh’s desire for experimentation and sound exploration. The mix was handled by PrinceVibe, who also produced some tracks, including the two dub versions featured on the album.
The release of Roots ‘n’ Soul marks the beginning of an important chapter for Tom Siddh and ZonaSun, also marked by a renewed lineup and the infusion of new energy into the project. Like the sun rising from the night every day, ZonaSun returns and continues its musical journey, spreading its message of love, awareness, and hope.
